Programme Overview

Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in sustainability? Do you want to challenge yourself and collaborate with like-minded peers to address environmental issues? The HKU Sustainability Leadership Programme for 2025-26 invites you to embark on an exciting journey of innovation, teamwork, and impact.

Organised by the Sustainability Unit of Estates Office, this year-long programme is designed to gather a team of like-minded HKU students to become sustainability leaders for environmental protection. You will engage in targeted workshops to gain a comprehensive understanding of sustainability issues and sharpen leadership, project management, and communication skills. You will then apply these skills by collaborating with your team to plan and execute a Student-Initiated Sustainability Project on campus, with $2,500 funding per team to help bring your ideas to life and make a positive impact on the university community.

At the end of the programme, sustainability leaders who successfully complete all modules will be awarded a certificate, GreenU Points and shopping voucher from a local eco-friendly store.

Programme Structure

This year's programme will be conducted as a small competition focused on two main themes:

  • Sustainable Consumption

  • Food Waste Reduction

During Orientation Day, each team will discuss the themes and will be assigned one of them, forming a total of 4 teams — 2 teams dedicated to each theme.

Throughout the programme, teams will develop and implement their projects, culminating in the submission of a Project Completion Report. The Sustainability Unit will assess the report and evaluate the overall progress and execution of each project to determine the top projects within each category.
